Forty Years or so…

My name is Roger Povey

I was born in 1968 in Stockton-on-Tees in the North East of England, my Parents are Julie (Smith) and Alan Povey and I have a sister named Joanne who was born in 1966.

This is my Mam and Dad on their wedding day.

After 5 rather noisy years at home, I then attended Hartburn Primary School for the next 8… where I am sure I was equally noisy. Whilst in the infants my family lived in Saudi Arabia for a short while, I attended a couple of schools there too.

Hartburn Primary School:- 1981.

In 1981 I moved on up to “big school” – namely Ian Ramsay School, Below is the (soon to be disbanded) first year rugby team… not the most successful bunch of chaps to grace the rugby pitch…. to be fair I think I was probably the weakest link.

I spent many a chilly morning swimming for one of 2 swimming clubs (rather more successfully than my rugby efforts)… below is my favourite swimming club – Stockton Amateurs. Thanks Dad for getting up at 5:00 a.m. every morning to watch me trawl backwards and forwards.

Having spent the best part of 5 years either in water or playing on one of these…

I left Ian Ramsay and progressed on to  Stockton 6th Form College where I met Clare in 1985… Clearly it was the cool thing to do to wear an inflatable parrot whilst walking along the High Street.

Sixth Form was fantastic…. University was better. A few years later I graduated with a Neuroscience degree (Joint Honours Anat and Phys) which was followed by Masters in Computer Science. And some fantastic friends.

After a year or so working as a Database Programmer in Dundee along came my first proper job working for a fantastic company in London. Clare and I moved to London, and then Hertfordshire. I worked at Intellect for 4 years.

In 1998 I finished working at Intellect and subsequently moved to SAP UK, and there I have been working ever since. At SAP I have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of industries, on ever more challenging projects.

In 2000 we needed a little more floor space, so we moved to Cambridgeshire. A month or so later along came our son – Arthur.

Closely followed by Elke in 2003…

And last, but by no means least – by Freya in 2005…

Today in 2010 the world has moved on from plastic rattles and nappies… The house is full of video games…. heaven. This is the family in 2010, taking a walk over the fields behind our house… Not long now and everyone will be taller than Mummy.
